Colorado Tourism Office Honors Whitley for Tourism Contributions

Durango, CO – The Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad is proud to announce its Sales Manager, Carrie Whitley as the winner of the 2015 Governor’s Award for Outstanding Individual Contribution to Colorado Tourism. This award is given annually to an individual in recognition of his/her contributions to the promotion and development of the Colorado tourism industry.

The D&SNGRR is privileged to have Whitley lead its sales team. Her knowledge and expertise, especially in the travel trade sector of the industry, has contributed to the railroad’s continued brand strength as one of the premier tourist railroad attractions nationally and internationally.

In addition to her representation of the railroad, Whitley is active in promoting Durango and our region. “Carrie is passionate about tourism and Southwestern Colorado. This is an honor to have Carrie receive such high recognition from the Colorado Tourism Office for her dedication and knowledge," said Bob Kunkel, Executive Director of theDurango Tourism Office.

Whitley is active at the state and national level serving on committees with the Colorado Tourism Office (CTO), American Bus Association (ABA) and the National Tour Association (NTA). She is also the Director of Tour Colorado, the only statewide organization marketing Colorado directly to domestic tour operators and packaged travel planners.

“I am lucky to be an advocate for tourism in a destination I love, in a state I love and in an industry I have a passion for growing," said Whitley.
