This September the C&TS will offer a unique opportunity to get the feel of riding the line from Antonito to Santa Fe in the late second decade of the 20th century before the US got involved in the 1st World War.
What we are doing is putting together a train similar to those run on the "Chili Line" in the teens. The goal is to show off the recently restored Jackson & Sharp D&RG coach 292, RPO #54 restored by the "Friends", the #315 as it looked when first acquired by the Rio Grande, and create the feel of those days on the D&RG.
When first purchased from the F&CC the locomotive was numbered 425. It will be repainted and lettered to that time frame.
The trip on the 24th of September is a fund raiser to help cover the cost of building passenger trucks for the three passenger cars that will make up the historic fleet that will run with the #168 when completed.
The train will be limited to 40 passengers. the cost is $325. There will be multiple unique photo opportunities for those lucky enough to secure a ticket.
Tickets can be obtained by calling the C&TS Depot at -888-286-2737.
