Donuts at 8:00 a.m.!
How can we make Opening Day for the Cumbres & Toltec on May 26 twice as exciting? By operating two (not one, but two!!) Double-headers! Locomotives 315 and 463 will pull the opening day train from Antonito to Chama, while a pair of K-36 locomotives will pull the first train out of Chama.
On Memorial Day, the Cumbres & Toltec Scenic Railroad would like to express our thanks, appreciation and remembrance to all the men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice for our country. We are proud that the railroad's founder, General William Jackson Palmer, was presented with the nation's highest award, the Congressional Medal of Honor, for bravery in the Civil War. His medal, uniforms and historic photographs can be seen at the Colorado Springs Pioneers Museum. General Palmer founded the city of Colorado Springs, engineered the first railroad to Denver, and built what is now the entire Cumbres & Toltec Scenic Railroad in one year, 1880. We thank and remember all of those who gave their lives for our country.
