If you are looking for ideas for Dad or Grandpa, we have a few for you to consider:
1) A train ride together next weekend It's true. There is nothing quite as exciting for young and old alike as a real steam locomotive getting ready to depart on a 90 minute train ride from Ely up Robinson Canyon and on toward the Old Ruth Mining District. Come and be part the excitement!
That train you see will be departing on Fathers Day at 9:30am . There is also a 1:00 pm departure that is drawn by one of our vintage diesels.
Remember, Dads ride free on Father's Day. Book the rest of your party, then Dad can pick up his free ticket at the ticket window when he arrives.
2) Sit down with the whole family and plan out an adventure this year to the real American West If you can't come up this coming weekend, how about taking the time together to plan a trip someplace completely new and different. Ely is the heart of the true American West. It makes for a fresh destination vacation complete with mysterious caves, ghost towns, mountain lakes, and, of course, the Railroad.
3) Plan on giving Dad his "Lifetime Achievement Award" with an experience just for him on the Nevada Northern Railway
How would Dad like to actually be in the engineer's seat, at the throttle of an authentic, historic, working, full-sized steam locomotive on a run of his own all the way up the hill and back? It truly is an experience of a lifetime.
Yes, every dad who owns a socket wrench would like to be in the engineer's seat and be in control of this locomotive. The only question is to do it with a train (above) or just the locomotive (below). We're sure he will enjoy either one.
