Day One: Historic Durango
Travel back in time via the historic Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad to Silverton (time varies: one way on train with return via coach: 5.5. Round trip on train: 9 hours). Relive the sites and sounds of yesteryear with a spectacular journey on board a historic, coal-fired, steam-powered train that has been transporting passengers since 1882. Upon return visit the Railroad Museum and take a walking tour of Downtown Durango. Enjoy dinner in one of our many local restaurants. After dinner stop by the Diamond Belle Saloon, or enjoy a live show at the Henry Strater Theatre.
Day Two: Agritourism and Culinary
In the morning head to James Ranch and enjoy a memorable tour through the lush green pastures in the beautiful Animas River Valley. (Time: approx. 2.5 hours). After the tour stop by Honeyville and experience a taste of the delicious locally made honey. In the afternoon take a tour of Durango local breweries. Our Tour de Brews will guide you on a fabulous journey to the best local breweries of beautiful Durango, Colorado. If you are not a beer lover you can opt for a wine tasting at Fox Fire Farm, the Southwest’s premier certified organic farm. Enjoy dinner in one of our farm-to-table restaurants in downtown Durango.
Day Three: Native American Heritage
Visit Mesa Verde National Park. Mesa Verde, Spanish for green table, offers a spectacular look into the lives of the Ancestral Pueblo people who made it their home for over 700 years, from 600 to 1300 A.D. (Drive time: 50 min. Spend 5 hours.) Before returning to Durango visit the Anasazi Heritage Center, a museum of the Ancestral Puebloan (or Anasazi) culture and other native cultures in the Four Corners region. (Drive time from the Park: 20 min.)
Day Four: Outdoors and Adventure
Durango offers countless outdoor opportunities for you to enjoy from hiking, mountain biking, whitewater rafting, kayaking, and canoeing, to horseback riding, mountain climbing, ziplining and jeep tours. Enjoy a morning hike on the Colorado Trail, or take a full day rafting trip on the Animas River. If you are looking for a fun way to see the beautiful Durango scenery choose a zipline tour. In the evening soak at Trimble Hot Springs. After all this activity, lie back and relax under the star-filled sky.
